Fish killed due to sewage leak and lack of oxygen

LONGVIEW, TX – A heart breaking discovery was made by kids when they were passing by the Triple Creek Bridge in Longview. They found hundreds of fish dead by the spillway of the Johnston Lake area.  Gregg Conley, a pollution biologist with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Kills team said that the fish suffocated due to lack of oxygen in the water.  In fact when the biologist tested the oxygen in the water the result indicated that it was low.

The real cause of poor oxygen in the water was due to a sewage break down which was released from a manhole in close proximity.  This sewage leak caused an oxygen demand which takes out the air in the water leaving the fish to have nothing to breath.

To ascertain the finding, an investigation has been made and experts believed and concluded that the water pollution was caused by sewage leak.  Consequently, to remove the dead fish and clean up the lake water a city crew was called in.
