Japan fishing industry badly affected by the natural calamities

Even two months after, the terrible tsunami and earthquake which hit Japan, the country is still seeking solutions to overcome this crisis.  New objectives and tasks have been set up to improve the country conditions. The vice president of the Tokyo Electrical Power Company Mr. Muto said that their main target is to shutdown within 9 months.   Statistics show about 25000 residents were victim of this catastrophe and millions of people were made homeless.

Mr. Muto said that the fishing industry was hugely affected and major parts of the coastline were wiped out.  He also highlighted that Kesennuma port is among the 10 largest ports in Japan offering facilities such as refueling and maintenances.  Fishing activities has drastically decreased even after the government has set back the facilities. Although $49 billion has been spent in cleaning affected areas, fishermen prefer to sail more than 60kms to feel more secure.

Fishing game worth a million dollars.

The boat commission in Pennsylvania is using a beautiful marketing strategy to promote Berkley line and Abu Brand. After having tag more than 1000 fishes and released them in 60 lakes of the country, the contest consist of catching the fish with the appropriate tag to be entitle to win the big cash prize. So far the idea sounds normal but when it comes to the prize itself, I guess lot of people will definitely go fishing even if they hate it. One million dollar as cash prize can be pretty convincing to start fishing.

The Pennsylvania and the Cabellas are two fish species that has been selected for this game. Ed Florentino, a local citizen has changed his routine just to make sure to increase his chances of winning the big prize. What is more interesting is that the cash prize can double if a Berkley line or Abu tools are used. That’s correct, there is no typing error in what I just said; you can win up to 2million if you are using these branded tools stated before.

The 2nd and 3rd prize consist of $100,000 which is not that bad for a fish. Ed Florentino told us that he is ready to try a million time for this million dollar fish and guess what, I think that me too I would be that motivated if I was living next to this country.

Well-known supermarkets criticized for confusing and poor fish labeling on the market.

Top supermarkets such as Tesco, Sainsbury and others are failing to meet consumer’s requirements. These shops are offering poor and confusing labeling on fish products.  The Marine Conservative Society (MSC) says that the sellers should help buyers to make the right choice by dwindling fish stocks. On Thursday 05th May 2011 a conservative charity initiated its most comprehensive seafood advice so as to assist industries, chefs, retailers and consumers to make the right choices concerning seafood products.  The guide is also available in pocket wise version with buying tips and useful questions concerning labeling of products when a product has not enough information on its packaging.

The MSC believes that production zone needs to be more specified as the seafood industry is vast with a variety of sustainable certifications.  Mr. Peter Duncan, MSC aquaculture and fisheries programmer manager said that a large amount of labels remain confusing and unclear. He also highlighted that seafood products labeling has not yet been improved and is still impossible to tell where exactly most fish products come from.

Fish dishes benefits for summer time.

For summer time everyone wants to consume fresh light foods so as to keep us trim and fit in our bikinis during the forthcoming months.  The American Heart Association (AHA) recommended seafood as the ideal summer dish rather than hot dogs or burgers.

It’s a quite easy recommendation as seafood consists of a huge variety of marine animals. Seafood is filled up with two kinds of omega-3 fatty acids, which reduces risk of arrhythmias, heart attacks, blood clots and strokes and also lower the triglycerides. Thanks to a great variety of cultures, there are many dishes that can be created from seafood.  Most seafood do not require long time to cook as most of the marine animals flesh are soft and has different structure when compared to land living creatures.

For summer time, fish is mostly appreciated when grilled with a lemon juice and some spices.
Some seafood recipes are:
ü  Batter fish and chips accompanied with salad.
ü  A traditional Peruvian dish server with spicy sauce.
ü  Fish curry serve with rice.
ü  Fish cooked in citrus juices such as lime, lemon and orange.
